To say this Hobbit House wedding session is unique for me would be an understatement. I mean come on! How often do you get the opportunity to photograph a wedding in a place that looks like ‘The Shire’. Any Lord of the Rings fans here? But I consider myself a Lake Chelan wedding photographer because it’s so local to me, and this has to be the most unique place I have ever photographed anywhere in the area.
The iconic green circle door, the rolling hillside, the super warm light, the hobbit size ladders and tools, right down to the smallest of details. This hobbit house in Orondo, WA is just outside of Lake Chelan, but you would truly think like you’re in New Zealand where everybody flocks to visit The Shire from the movie set. It’s still definitely on my bucket list to go there, but this super cute Air B&B is a heck of a lot easier to get to, haha.
It’s over a 3-hour drive from my house to the Hobbit House, but the drive is super easy… until the last 20 minutes.
You drive until the bottom of the hill, then you take a right into what I would say is more like a forest service road. It’s gravel, it’s bumpy, there are no safety barriers, and I could not even imagine how terrifying (or how impossible) it would be to drive in any other condition than a dry summer day. The twists and turns are scary for anyone who might be afraid of heights… but once you near the top… the hobbit house sits right in front of you. And it has an absolutely stunning view of Lake Chelan and the valley around it.
When most people think of Lake Chelan wedding photographers, you might also naturally think of all the Lake Chelan wedding venues. You know – the assortment of wineries, golf courses, and maybe even the Lady of the Lake! My wife (Haley) and I even considered getting married on that boat for a bit.
Lei is the beautiful bride that you see in the photos below, and they set out on this grand idea to have their photographs taken at such a magical place before their wedding in China… and everything turned out just as they had always dreamed.
They even brought their super cute, little Corgie. He was seriously the best little guy! Super attentive, listened really well, and he was a ham for the camera. Haha.
I may live west of the Cascades, but I lived and worked around Ellensburg & Wenatchee for many years. Lake Chelan was basically my back yard while I lived in Eastern Washington. Let’s make it happen.
