So, why choose Santorini for your wedding day?

Santorini, with its breathtaking blue waters and iconic white-washed buildings, is a dream destination for many couples looking to tie the knot. If you’re considering getting married in Santorini, here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan your big day.

  1. Planning Your Santorini Wedding: Logistics

First and foremost, it’s important to consider the logistics of getting married in a foreign country. This means obtaining a marriage license in both Santorini and your home country, as well as making sure that your marriage will be legally recognized back home. It’s also a good idea to hire a wedding planner who is familiar with the local regulations and can help you navigate the process.

Step 2 for Planning Your Santorini Wedding: Your Wedding Venue

Next, you’ll need to decide on a venue for your ceremony and reception. Santorini has a range of options, from intimate chapels to grand ballrooms. Many couples choose to exchange vows overlooking the Caldera, with its stunning views of the ocean and volcanic islands. Alternatively, you could opt for a beach ceremony or a ceremony in a charming village like Oia, Imerovigli or Fira.

Step 3 for Planning Your Santorini Wedding: Get Your Photographer

Once you’ve settled on a venue, it’s time to start thinking about the details of your wedding. This includes choosing a wedding gown and attire for the rest of the wedding party, selecting a florist and decor, and hiring a photographer and videographer to capture the day. You’ll also need to decide on a menu and hire a caterer, as well as choose a DJ or live band for the reception. (

Step 4 for Planning Your Santorini Wedding: Book Your Stay

In terms of guest accommodations, there are plenty of options on the island, from luxury hotels to more budget-friendly rentals. Many couples opt to rent out a villa or apartment, which can be a cost-effective option if you have a large wedding party.

Step 5 for Planning Your Santorini Wedding: Plan B

As you start to finalize your plans, don’t forget to consider the weather in Santorini. The island has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The peak tourist season runs from May to October, with temperatures often reaching into the mid-90s. If you’re getting married during this time, it’s important to have a backup plan in case of extreme heat (or the odd weather pattern that might not be super ideal for your wedding day).

Santorini is also known for its strong winds, which can be especially gusty in the spring and fall. This can be a factor to consider when choosing your wedding attire and decorations. (Keep in mind that a lot of gorgeous wedding venues on the island of Santorini are perched atop a beautiful cliff along the caldera).

Step 6 for Planning Your Santorini Wedding: Plan some FUN!

Finally, don’t forget to enjoy your time in Santorini both before and after the wedding. The island has a rich history and culture, with plenty of sights to see and activities to enjoy. You could visit the ancient city of Akrotiri, go wine tasting, or take a boat tour to the nearby volcanic islands.

Personally speaking, the best thing I have ever done in Santorini is renting a PRIVATE catamaran with family and taking the sunset cruise (basically a half day on the water) going around to various different spots around the Aegean inside of the caldera.

Overall, getting married in Santorini can be a dream come true for couples looking for a romantic and unforgettable destination wedding. Just be sure to plan ahead and take care of all the necessary logistics to ensure that your big day goes off without a hitch.
