Weddings usually follow a certain flow. So, if you’ve been to one wedding, you might see the same things on the next one you’re going to. A typical wedding is predictable and generic. Of course, you want yours to stand out. You want your wedding more unique and memorable than all your friends. You want it to be truly special to you… because you’re going to do this once.

Over the last 10 years, I have been to a LOT of weddings. This definitely isn’t my first rodeo. So, I want to share some really awesome tips to help you along the way as you plan out your special day.

Here are some tips on how to make a wedding more unique and memorable, not only for you but also for your guests.

  1. Make Some Activities Before The Ceremony

You’re not the only one who needs pre-wedding ceremonies. Your guests also need this while waiting for you to arrive and start the whole ceremony. To do this, build up the chemistry among your guests by starting some engaging activities. Encourage guests’ participation to make your wedding more unique.

Below are some ideas that you can use:

  • Add an outdoor area with finger food and coffee where guests can mingle and stay their appetite before the big meal
  • Have a mini-golf area where guests can play golf and drink some beer
  • Prepare some wine and start a short wine tasting session – because everybody loves wine!
  • Hire a stand-up comedian to perform – or a magician!
  • Make your guests pick a card (containing a question and name of another guest) and have them go to the guest to ask the question on the card
  • Have a mini scavenger hunt to keep them entertained, and the winners get first crack through the buffet table!
  • Start a contest on who can take the nicest photos of the groom and bride with their cell phone photos using your hashtag – but without them interrupting the hired photographer
  • Make your guests guess the groomsmen gift

  1. Prepare Interesting And Cool Food During Your Reception

By choosing food that’s not traditional, it can also make your wedding and reception stand out. For example, you can start serving Mcdonald’s burgers and fries during your reception along with sushi and tempura if you’d like.

You may also request unique food from the chef of your wedding. If you’re playful, you can add a candy corner on your wedding reception. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of movies, you can also add a popcorn stand at your wedding reception.

  1. Prepare Wedding Favors That Are Useful For Guests

Stray away from the usual wedding giveaways of plates or souvenirs. You can opt to choose customized wedding favors that’ll be useful for each guest. An example would be a chopping board with your guest’s name on it. Another example could be a care package with things you love and find useful, such as perfume, glasses, chocolates, and whatever unique things you want to put in there.

  1. Choose A Unique Venue

A traditional wedding will be usually held in a church or hotel. To stand out from the rest, you might want to consider a unique venue. A unique venue will surely catch the eyes of your guests and leave them breathless. Start thinking about favorite destinations that’ll represent the two of you or just think out of the box.

Here are some suggestions in case you’re running out of ideas:

  • Farm
  • Art galleries
  • Forests
  • Lighthouse
  • Beach
  • Playgrounds and parks
  • Ski lodges in the middle of the mountain
  • Amusement parks
  • Campgrounds
  • Vineyard
  • Family home
  • On an Island
  • On a Cliff

The further you are from the usual set-ups of a wedding; the more excitement fills you and your guests. These locations also often offer more amenities, so this will also entertain your guests while you take photos and attend to different things during your wedding day.

  1. Surprise Your Guests During The Wedding or Reception

Weddings are getting more creative and innovative as time goes by. To the extent that your entire wedding ceremony won’t surprise anyone at all. Everyone’s gone through the drill. Why not do something to surprise your guests? It doesn’t need to be too extravagant. You can either surprise them with an item inside the wedding or with some of your hidden skills.

Here are some ideas that you can use:

  • Perform during your reception by singing or dancing
  • Add a secret themed tent for your guests during the reception
  • Creating a fire pit where your guests can make smores
  • Add games to your reception
  • Hire a special guest to perform
  • Prepare a short video so guests can know more about the bride and groom
