It’s not every year that I decide to take on a NYE wedding, but when I heard the details from Khadija & Pat about their day, I just had to say yes. They envisioned a day full of beautiful glamour, but a laid-back style & approach that was full of their closest friends and family. They also chose a the Melrose Market Studios wedding venue, which I’ve been to – but never photographed at before. And it was every bit as beautiful as I had imagined. It was also a sincere pleasure to work with Ashley Speight over at It’s Your Day Events! And since it was NYE, I absolutely, positively had to be next to my wife, Haley. It’s a holiday, and she’s an AMAZING assistant. I don’t even want to call her that. I should really call her a producer because that’s really more of what she does. <3
Man. A NYE wedding in downtown Seattle. I knew it was going to be busy, so we planned accordingly. I’m so glad we did, too!
Haley and I parked really early right by the wedding venue, snagged an awesome parking spot, and then walked to where Khadija was getting ready at the Motif hotel in downtown. It was about a 15-minute walk, so it was perfect. We left our car at the venue as to easily escape the NYE madness/rush that happens right after the fireworks. (And boy, did that ever work out perfectly!)
Once we made it to the Motif, I began photographing all of her wedding details that she had present. I was able to capture her stunning bracelet, the dress when it was off of her, her shoes, rings, bouquet, and all of them getting ready. It was just enough time to capture everything and not feel rushed. Beautiful.
From there, we planned to all carpool together to their first-look location at Occidental Square in Pioneer Square. But how could we do this without Pat and Khadija seeing each other? BLINDFOLD HIM! Classic. It worked out super well, too. Especially because we needed a driver to take us around to various spots in Seattle and not have to worry about parking on the super busy NYE holiday weekend. (Logistics planning for the win, woohoo!)
We were able to successfully capture their portraits at Occidental Square and the piers in downtown Seattle. We hopped up to Pier 66 where the cruise terminal is located to get that amazing view of downtown Seattle, the wheel, and the water. Again, super awesome especially because we had their friend drive us around and simply drop us off and pick us up. Loved those portraits of them down at Pier 66.
And right before sunset, we captured a few final portraits right in Melrose Market before they shut down.
The rest, as they say, is history. Or… more appropriately… super, super fun memories. Their ceremony was STUNNING and their reception was incredible. You’ve heard enough from me by now. 🙂 Check out the highlights from their NYE wedding at Melrose Market in Seattle. And as always, let me know if you have any questions about anything at all.
