When I got the email from Morgan that she wanted me to photograph her Port Gamble wedding, I knew I was in for a treat. Not because the venue is gorgeous in the most simple and quaint of ways, but because of their story. Because of what she shared with me about her son and how her fiance (now husband) has played a huge part in their lives – and that really meant the world to me to document their wedding story. And so, it began.
Their wedding in Port Gamble started at the Point Casino hotel, where they both got ready. Jeff was downstairs on the first floor, and Morgan was upstairs on the 4th. Both had huge windows for all that gorgeous natural light to pour in — and it was just about the only dry spot in the area — it was absolutely pouring. And this was an early August wedding when it’s hardly ever raining here in the PNW. But luckily for all of us – it cleared up just in time for their portraits, their ceremony, and the clouds parted to blue skies by the time the reception was held in a private backyard. (More on that gorgeous part of the day later, just keep reading!)
By the way – the beautiful hair & makeup here was done by Jen Lagers of The Outer Edge – and if you’re in need of wedding hair & makeup, I highly recommend her. Check her out for sure.
Okay, carrying on. Because the good stuff is coming!
Their Port Gamble wedding would not be complete without portraits in front of St. Paul’s church. It’s so iconic of the area, and it’s pristine, it’s quaint, and it has all the emotions wrapped up into a cute little building on the hill. If you’ve ever driven around that area, you remember the church! It’s so cute, and it’s super photogenic. And for these wedding photos that you’ll see below, the sun is right behind and above that church. It makes for great lighting, especially considering these photos were taken in the early afternoon when the sun is stereotypically in the worst position possible for photos. But hey, that’s why you hire a photographer with 10 years of experience! *wink wink*
And if you’re considering having your wedding in Port Gamble, you will also be wondering about where to take photos in the area! Well, I recommend … at your venue! Yes, you can also get some awesome photos at your Air B&B or hotel nearby, but with the right venue, you should be able to have a backdrop that is not only beautiful, but also sharing the story of your wedding day as well. And in the case of this wedding, right at St. Paul’s church.
Morgan & Jeff had their first look in front of St. Paul’s, had their ceremony inside of the church, rang the bell to celebrate, had their family photos right there on site before everybody drove off… and celebrated the night away at a private residence on the waterfront. They thought about every last detail, and it all came together so smoothly.
And I just have to say – Morgan is an absolutely beautiful bride. Photogenic, oh yes.
Jeff was there by Morgan’s son’s side all day, helping him get ready and helping him celebrate. To see their love for each other just made everybody’s heart melt. You can tell he’s been a great father figure to the little guy, and will continue to be for years to come.
You know I could write about how gorgeous their reception was with a checkerboard dance floor right on the waterfront along Puget Sound… but their wedding photos will tell more than I could ever describe here.
They got ready at the Point Casino Hotel just north of the Kingston ferry terminal.
All of their wedding day details were ready to rock & roll. They were so prepared! LOVED that.
Jen Lagers from Outer Edge crushed the hair & makeup. Great job, Jen!
Let’s get this celebration started!
STUNNING. #LumaBride.
All the feels from her bridesmaids.
Treating her like a princess. Like every bride deserves on her wedding day.
What a good looking group, am I right? Wedding photos in front of St. Paul’s church in Port Gamble went swimmingly.
You know we had to take all the Port Gamble wedding photos that we could. With those pastel tones and that gorgeous bridal party – let’s rock it.
Floral game strong.
