Rain, rain, go away, come back another day! This Rosario Resort wedding day was full of rain, fog, wind, and stormy seas. GOTTA LOVE THE PNW! 🙂
And personally, I say that with all sincerity. I love the weather here, and I crave a good storm. Being born in the PNW, it’s in my blood.
Amy & Alex had their wedding at Rosario Resort on Orcas Island – and they flew cross-country to have their destination wedding here. They were hoping for sun and a gorgeous sunset, and the start of their wedding day looked a little bleak for that to happen.
Knowing the PNW craziness – especially in September – the weather can be unpredictable. It can be pouring rain one moment, then sunny the next. Their wedding had everything.
Alex didn’t want any getting-ready photographs, but Amy and her bridesmaids did, so I spent the first part of the day with them in their bridal sweet, “The Cliff House” on the edge of the water. It had the most gorgeous view, and we watched the seaplanes land and take off in the gorgeous Sound only a few hundred feet away. Talk about unique!
As soon as Amy was ready for the first-look, she and her maid-of-honor hopped in my car and we drove up the mountainside to capture their portraits.
Normally, there is a gorgeous view from the top of Mount Constitution, but it was completely banked in by fog. The visibility was about 100 feet.
Do we cancel the first-look location and go somewhere else? Do we change the plan? NO WAY!! It’s the PNW, and this is part of their story! It’s amazing and gorgeous! Let’s do it!!
With the best wedding venue on Orcas Island (my humble opinion only), I love capturing a wide array of styles and locations throughout the day. And that’s exactly what we did. We were inside a cliffside hotel room, then on the deck, then in the fog on the mountain, then in the dark forest under a heavy tree canopy, and out on the docks during golden hour just prior to sunset.
Before their reception, though — they had one of the most beautiful ceremony locations in the US. The view from Rosario Resort is stunning. No photograph can really do it justice. You have to feel the breeze, smell the ocean air, and listen to the seagulls flying overhead. I love it.
Their vows to each other were also some of the most beautiful and genuine I’ve ever heard. And they were truly touching.
For their wedding reception at Rosario Resort, the party got kicked off quickly and it kept increasing in energy until my time was up! Make sure to keep scrolling down through their wedding highlights below to see the Magic Mike dance show that the groomsmen performed for Amy!!!
