For my final wedding of 2016 (after 43 weddings), my wife and I had the pleasure of ending the year with a beautiful destination – Secrets the Vine wedding venue & hotel in Cancun, Mexico for Brooke + Alex. Destination weddings are my absolute favorite, and we were also really excited to get out of some freezing weather in Western Washington. (It was below 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the mountains the day before we left!).
Bags were packed and we made sure to get to the airport early. Everything with the trip went smoothly. We were dropped off at the terminal to avoid the winter rush at the parking lots, got to the gate 2 hours early to be totally safe, and boarded our red-eye flight. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a non-stop flight, and I got a solid 25 minutes of sleep on the second leg of our flight. This is exactly why we get to destination weddings early, though. We know that the travel is completely exhausting and we need to make sure our energy is back at 100% for the wedding day.
My wife and I caught our shuttle to our hotel at the Grand Park Royal Cancun Caribe, and we decided to upgrade ourselves to the beachfront suite with private mini pool and jacuzzi tub. Completely worth the investment and to treat ourselves after a super exhausting season. I don’t think we would return to this hotel – especially after visiting the Secrets of the Vine on Brooke’s wedding day. The Secrets resort is absolutely stunning. Modern, trendy, comfortable, and the views are incredible.
The day prior to their wedding day, the sun was shining and the sunset certainly held a gorgeous show. Pinks, purples, and soft warm light. It was perfect. The wedding day itself, however, had something different in store.
Rain, wind, dark clouds, and an unpredictable weather pattern. It certainly wasn’t what Brooke & Alex were hoping for, but they made the most out of every second.
They had to cancel their beachfront ceremony and move everything indoors. It wasn’t what they wanted, but they moved forward with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts. The coordinators for this Secrets Vine Cancun wedding moved on the fly and attended to their changing wedding day. Everyone was very helpful.
The sun peaked out from time-to-time, and it opened up during golden hour (slightly) for us to take a few portraits for literally only 10-15 minutes before the sunset. We had to move quickly, and the session went smoothly with lots of pose options and lots of authenticities. It was beautiful. In the editing stages of this gorgeous wedding at the Secrets The Vine wedding venue and hotel, I just pumped up the contrast a bit and added a bit of vibrance to really make those sunset colors come out a bit more — all while keeping it natural.
Everything you see in the below gallery was taken with my brand new Canon 5D Mark IV. Absolutely love this new gem. It is a fantastic addition to my equipment for all my future couples.
