One of the most cost effective ways to have your wedding is to have it on government property – state parks included. So, if you have been doing your research on how to keep your venue costs down, you’ve most likely come across your option of having a Kitsap Memorial State Park wedding. Located near Poulsbo, Washington, it’s a short commute from the mainland and it’s very easy to find.
So, what’s the catch of having a venue for only a fraction of the price?
They don’t take phone reservations. You have to show up in person… and on the popular dates of each wedding season, there are sometimes a few people gunning for the same date. So, you have to make sure you show up early. Like, the night before and camp overnight… then be the first one knocking on the door when there is someone there. Furthermore, you have to reserve it within a year of your wedding date (no longer).
For most, it’s more of a headache then it’s worth due to the current reservation system, but it’s definitely an awesome venue. My wife and I were even considering getting married here ourselves. It had the forest vibe, it is right against the water, and it’s in an old log cabin. Pretty cool, I thought. Not too many places in Washington have a cabin reception site. We just weren’t personally wanting to risk losing the one date we had in mind if someone else beat us to the punch for the reservation. But if you’re reading this blog post, they might have changed their reservation system since then (back in 2016). Get in touch with them to see! It’s an AMAZING deal there for what you get.
For Emily + Forrest’s wedding, it was so laid back and a lot of fun. It was perfect for them and their personalities. The sun came through and it was beautiful from start to finish. They’re such a genuinely thoughtful and sweet couple. It’s days like this that make me love my career as a wedding photographer. And if you are looking for the same style wedding, this venue will probably be perfect for you! <3
