If you have been looking for some ideas for an adventurous engagement session, you’ve most likely thought about having your portraits in the mountains, by a cabin, on a river, canoeing out on a lake, or even something super adventurous like skydiving, hot air ballooning, or spelunking. Well, if you haven’t already thought of those – then you definitely need me as your photographer because all of those sound epic to me! What this blog post is all about is the incredible Big Four Ice Caves engagement session that I photographed.
The couple is actually my brother, Logan, and my new sister-in-law, Megan! I’ve personally been wanting to photograph the Big Four Ice Caves near Granite Falls, WA for awhile, but they are always so dangerous to be around. My wife didn’t want us anywhere near them because of everything we have read about them, but me being a photographer… I still had to go… and I had to find an engaged couple willing to be near the danger. Who better to get injured than your own family, right? Haha.
We tried timing out the best times to visit the Big Four Ice Caves, which we figured wouldn’t be in the hottest months of the year. We wanted the ice caves to be as solid as possible. So, we went on the first Spring day where it wasn’t completely snowed in and had a bit of sunshine peeking through. The results were just what I had hoped. Eery blue ice caves and dark, cavernous backdrop to really bring in the edgy, yet romantic feel to these photographs.

I would absolutely love to go back up there and photograph a guy in a suit and a woman in a gorgeous, flowy red/orange/yellow dress. Something that POPS. If that’s you, please contact me!
