Whenever I hear of a couple getting married at a venue that I haven’t photographed, I’m excited. It’s great to capture a new place with new ideas. Emily and Eli chose Axis Pioneer Square (view their site HERE) as their ceremony and reception site. But first, they got ready at the Alexis Hotel in downtown Seattle! What a bunch of fun that was!! Jumping on the beds, cracking open the champagne bottles, tons of laughs, and a friendly wedding party.
Speaking of which!… for those of you interested in finding a great hotel in downtown Seattle to get ready at on your wedding day, the Alexis Hotel is fantastic for getting ready photos – especially the suites with larger windows! Keep that in mind. Natural light is your friend 🙂

The Axis Pioneer Square wedding venue itself does pose some interesting challenges as a wedding photographer. Make sure to bring these up with your photographer (even if that’s not me). Every wall in there is red brick. There’s only one big window by the entrance. The rest is dark. And when you use flash in a red brick room, it puts color casts on the people in that room — unless you know how to photograph in a red brick room. So, if you are set on having this gorgeous, rustic, urban venue as your wedding site… make sure your photographer knows how to handle the lighting to make you look amazing and to stay away from those color casts.
One special note – this wedding team of professionals really made this day amazing. The florals by Seattle Floral Design were on point, the planning was perfectly detailed by Erin of Lindeman Weddings & Events, and the staff from Ravishing Radish were amazing and attentive. Thank you, everybody.
